
Pompa Leads Green Wave at Huntington Bank Collegiate

DALLAS, Texas – Sophomore Francesca Pompa paced Tulane women's golf on the first day of competition at the Huntington Bank Collegiate landing in the top 25 of the field through two rounds of play on Monday. The Green Wave holds ninth place out of 17 teams in the tournament hosted by SMU after posting a team score of 584 (+8) at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
As a team the Wave opened by shooting 291 (+3) in the first round of action to sit tied for seventh overall before recording a 293 (+5) in round two to drop into ninth place.
Pompa paced the Wave on the two-round opening day of the tournament as she closed Monday tied for 25th overall with a 36-hole score of 144 (E). The Varese, Italy, native started the day shooting a 71 (-1) that put her in a tie for seventh after the first round. She followed that with a 73 (+1) in the second. Through the first two round Pompa recorded eight total birdies which led Tulane and ranked tied for 17th in the tournament.
The next players on the leaderboard for the Green Wave were Sophia Chen and Sophia Macias who finished the first two rounds tied for 51st overall with a total score of 148 (+4). Chen posted a 73 (+1) in her opening round followed by a 75 (+3) while collecting seven birdies which is tied for 27th in the field. Meanwhile, Macias began with a 75 (+3) in the first round before shooting a 73 (+1) in the second while also recording seven birdies.
The duo of Cristina Albertazzi and Gabriella Gilrowski rounded out the group for Tulane both ending Monday tied for 60th overall with a 36-hole score of 150 (+6). Albertazzi began the tournament shooting a 78 (+6) in the first round before sinking three of her four birdies to shoot a 72 (E) in round two. Gilrowski started by hitting four of her five birdies to post a 72 (E) in round one before closing the day with a 78 (+6).
UP NEXT
The Wave will close out the Huntington Bank Collegiate tournament at Trinity Forest Golf Club Tuesday with the third and final round of action. The third round is set to start at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
