Baseball’s Larson Drafted In 16th Round By Colorado Rockies

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane pitcher Sam Larson was picked 464th overall in the 16th round by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon on the second day of the 2026 Major League Draft.
Larson, a junior right-hander, went 2-3 with 3.95 ERA in 28 appearances and three starts for Tulane in 2026. He led the team and ranked seventh in the conference in saves with four. He surrendered just 30 hits in 41 innings pitched while fanning 54. His 28 appearances placed him fourth in the conference. As a reliever, he struck out 39 in 26 innings pitched while limiting opponents to a .190 batting average.
He is the first Tulane player selected in the 2026 draft. Overall, he is the 139th player that Tulane has had drafted in the program's long and storied history. The program has now seen eight players selected over the last three seasons and has had at least one player selected in the MLB Draft in each of the last 15 years. The program has also had at least one pitcher selected in six straight drafts.
Larson is the third Tulane player ever selected by the Colorado Rockies following right-handed pitcher Tyler Hoffman (17th round - 2022) and infielder Michael Johns (19th round - 1997). He is also the highest drafted Tulane player by the Rockies.
In 2026, the Green Wave went 25-31 with a mark of 10-17 in league play. The team had an All-Conference selection in Jason Wachs, were honored weekly by the league office nine times and had five College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections in pitcher Trey Cehajic, Larson, first baseman Trent Liolios, pitcher Jake Toporek, and pitcher Blaise Wilcenski.
