MOBILE, Ala. – Damage from the service line set the tone for Tulane volleyball (6-2) as it defeated South Alabama (3-6) 3-1 in the final match of the South Alabama Invitational. The Green Wave recorded a season-high 10 service aces in the match led by Makena Lim with three and Avery Burks and Dayla Ortiz with two each.

With the win, the Wave improved to 6-2 on the season including 2-0 on the road. The victory also moved Tulane to 26-7 all-time against the Jaguars and 5-4 in Mobile, Alabama. The win snapped a two-match losing streak for the Green Wave against South Alabama and marked its first road win in the series since October 30, 1991.

Sophomore Charlee Solomon highlighted the effort for Tulane notching her first career triple-double with 45 assists, 13 digs, and 10 kills. She was efficient when she was on the attack for the Wave posting a .833 hitting percentage on 12 attacks.

Solomon set up the rest of the offense for the Green Wave as seven different players registered at least one kill. Lauryn Mack led the team with 14 kills while Chloe List followed with 13, and Riley Tucker added a season-high 12.

Defensively, Ortiz paced Tulane on the back line with 15 digs while adding a pair of assists and two service aces. Solomon followed with 13 digs as part of her first career triple-double and Lim added 13 digs to go with her team-high three aces.

After the Jaguars put the first point of the match on the board, the Wave quickly answered with the next three points to take the lead. South Alabama managed to respond with a 5-0 run to put the Green Wave down 5-7, but Tulane was undeterred.

The Green Wave tallied the next three points sparking a 7-2 run to reclaim the advantage 12-9. Tulane extended its lead to as many as five points in the first set before holding off a late push by the Jaguars to take the set 25-23.

In the second set the Wave jumped in front in a hurry and never looked back. Tulane mounted a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run early in the set to build a 13-3 advantage over South Alabama. The lead eventually grew to as many as 12 points for the Green Wave before Tulane closed the set with a 25-14 victory.

The third set was much more competitive throughout between the Green Wave and the Jaguars. During the set the two teams exchanged the lead seven times and met in a tie score 14 times. Ultimately, it was South Alabama this time that found success with the final push scoring the final three points as Tulane dropped the set 26-28.

Tulane bounced back to take the early advantage scoring four unanswered points to open the fourth set. After South Alabama started to climb back into the set back-to-back kills by Ziya Sista sparked a 10-3 run to put the Wave in control 21-12.

However, the Jaguars did not back down from the fight chipping away at the Green Wave lead until Tulane held a 23-18 advantage. With set and match point hanging in the balance for the Wave South Alabama pulled within one, but Solomon slammed the door on the Jaguars with her 10th kill to secure the 25-23 set win and 3-1 match victory for Tulane.

The Green Wave will return to Uptown to host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, September 17. The match between Tulane and the Titans will start 4 p.m. and air live on ESPN+.
