NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball (7-2) notched its fifth sweep of the season and its third consecutive victory as it topped Cal State Fullerton (4-6) 3-0 on Thursday afternoon inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave used a balanced attack offensively with seven different players recording at least one kill to secure the sweep over the Titans.

With the win, the Wave improved to 7-2 on the season including 2-1 at home. The victory also marked the first win for Tulane over the Titans evening the series at 1-1 all-time.

Chloe List paced the Green Wave offensive attack as the only player to reach double figures in kills with 10 to go with three digs and three total blocks. She was followed by Avery Burks with nine kills and Maddy McLin with seven while Charlee Solomon and Riley Tucker each added five.

Solomon also set up the attack at the net for the Wave leading the team with 29 assists. She added eight digs, two total blocks, and a service ace to her stat sheet as well. Makena Lim contributed to the orchestration of the offense as she recorded a season-high five assists.

Defensively, Lim led the way off the net as she tallied nine digs to go with her five assists. Following her on the back end of the defense for Tulane were Dayla Ortiz and Solomon with eight digs apiece. Meanwhile at the net the Green Wave recorded nine total blocks as a team with six different players registering at least one block. Riley Tucker paced the team with four total blocks followed by List with three and Burks and Solomon with two each.

Opening the first set Cal State Fullerton claimed an early advantage but it was short lived as the Wave rattled off an 8-2 scoring run to take the lead 10-5. Tulane stayed in front the remainder of the set eventually extending its advantage to double figures while scoring the final five points to win 25-13.

The Green Wave had its offense rolling in the opening set hitting .440 as a team on the attack. The defense was stout for Tulane at the net as well during the first set as the team notched four total blocks against the Titans.

Action in the second set started in a similar way to the first as this time it was a 7-2 run by Tulane to claim an early 10-7 advantage. The Wave and the Titans exchanged points throughout the middle of the set until Tulane closed with a 6-1 run including scoring the final three points to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 set win.

Tulane carried that momentum into the start of the third set jumping out to a 5-1 advantage over Cal State Fullerton. The Titans did not roll over battling back to even the score at 6-6, but the Green Wave quickly reclaimed the lead on back-to-back errors by Cal State Fullerton.

The Wave managed to extend the advantage out to 15-10 before the media timeout which provided a spark for the Titans. Cal State Fullerton chipped away to eventually put Tulane behind 18-19. However, the Green Wave responded with purpose scoring seven of the final nine points in the set capped off by a service ace from Zoe Rachow to secure the set 25-21 and the sweep 3-0 over the Titans.

Tulane will welcome cross-town rival LSU New Orleans inside Devlin in Fogelman on Sunday, September 20. The match between the Wave and the Privateers is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
