Green Wave Wins Fourth-Straight with Sweep Over Privateers

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball (8-2) secured its fourth consecutive victory and its sixth sweep of the season with a 3-0 win over cross-town foe LSU New Orleans (2-11) on Sunday afternoon inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave leaned on its success attacking in the middle to claim the victory as middle blockers Riley Tucker and Maddy McLin recorded double digit kills.

With the win, the Wave improved to 8-2 on the season including 3-1 at home. The victory also marked the 12th consecutive win for Tulane over the Privateers extending its series advantage to 25-7.

The middle blockers for the Green Wave paced the offensive attack at the middle of the net against LSU New Orleans. Tucker led the with a team-high 11 kills to go with three total blocks while McLin followed with a career-high 10 kills and one block.

Also contributing for the Wave offense were Lauryn Mack and Millie Burgess with eight kills each. The eight kills for Burgess were a season-high for the true freshman who also tallied five digs and a service ace. Avery Burks rounded out the leaders for Tulane with seven kills while Charlee Solomon continued to orchestrate the offense with 37 assists, four kills, and four aces.

Defensively, Makena Lim was everywhere for the Green Wave as she totaled a career-best 25 digs to go with a season-high eight assists. Mack finished as the only other player with double figures in digs for Tulane with 13.

Solomon got the Wave off to a hot start against the Privateers opening the match with back-to-back aces as Tulane jumped out to the early lead in the first set. The Green Wave built a six-point advantage (10-6) before LSU New Orleans called its first timeout.

After the timeout the Privateers slowly chipped away at the Green Wave lead until Tulane was clinging to a 16-15 advantage. A kill from Burgess and back-to-back kills from Solomon helped the Wave push its lead back to four (19-15) before Tulane ultimately closed the set with five-straight points to win 25-17.

The Wave and the Privateers went back-and-forth to begin the second set trading the lead three times and meeting with a tie score seven times. Tulane faced its largest deficit of the day at 12-15 as the second set hit the media timeout.

Following the break Tulane came storming out offensively scoring 12 unanswered points to reach set point with a 24-15 advantage. A kill by Burgess secured the set win for the Green Wave 25-16 and put Tulane in control of the match up 2-0.

After the two teams traded points to start the third set the Wave scored three-straight points to pull in front 11-8. Tulane pushed its advantage to double figures as the set continued before securing the match victory 3-0 by winning the set 25-15.

UP NEXT
Tulane will open American Conference play on the road on Friday and Sunday, September 25 and 27. Tulane will visit UTSA in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday to begin league competition before facing North Texas in Denton, Texas, on Sunday.
