Tulane Opens Conference Play in the Lone Star State

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball will look to keep its winning streak rolling as it begins American Conference action this weekend on the road. The Green Wave will open league play Friday, September 25, at UTSA in San Antonio, Texas, at 6 p.m. before journeying over to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas on Sunday, September 27, at 1 p.m.
The Wave enters the weekend on a four-match win streak following a 2-0 performance at home last weekend. Tulane secured sweeps over Cal State Fullerton and LSU New Orleans in its final weekend before conference play. With the sweeps over the Titans and the Privateers the Green Wave finished non-conference action six sweeps which marks the most Tulane has had against non-conference opponents since recording five in 2019.
So far this season the Tulane offensive attack has been paced by four players with at least 80 total kills. Lauryn Mack leads the team with 103 kills followed by Chloe List with 92, Riley Tucker with 84, and Avery Burks with 80. Charlee Solomon has set up the attack for the Green Wave with a team-leading 354 assists which ranks fifth in the American.
Defensively, Dayla Ortiz leads three players on the backline for the Wave with more than 100 digs. Ortiz paces the group with 107 followed by Makena Lim with 103 and Solomon with 102. Up at the net for the Tulane defense four players have recorded double figures in total blocks this season led by 32.0 from Tucker.
Wave Against the Roadrunners
Tulane enters the match against UTSA trailing the all-time series to the Roadrunners 5-8 including a 1-3 mark in San Antonio. The Green Wave and the Roadrunners split their two matchups last season with each team winning at home. Tulane won the first match in New Orleans 3-2 on October 31 before UTSA returned the favor in Texas beating the Wave 3-1 on November 9.
The last time the Green Wave defeated the Roadrunners in San Antonio was on October 9, 2024. That victory was the start of a three-match win streak for Tulane over UTSA that was eventually snapped with the loss on the road last season. The Wave's last victory in San Antonio was a 3-0 sweep during which Avery Burks led the team with 11 kills.
Green Wave versus Mean Green
The Wave has lost its last two meetings against North Texas and holds a 3-9 overall against the Mean Green. Tulane has never defeated the Mean Green on the road in Denton, Texas, dropping each of the previous three matchups in the Lone Star State. North Texas defeated the Wave in both meetings last year including the most recent match in Denton on November 14 when Tulane lost 1-3.
The last time the Green Wave defeated the Mean Green was a 3-1 victory in New Orleans on October 27, 2024. The win for the Wave snapped a four-match losing streak against North Texas. Burks finished second for Tulane with 15 kills in the win while Zoe Rachow led the team with 28 assists.
Following this week's action in the Lone Star State, the Wave will travel to Tennessee to square off with the Memphis Tigers. The match between Tulane and the Tigers will be played on Friday, October 2.
