Before Tulane: Ran four years of cross country and track at Berwick High...Was the captain of his distance squad all four years...State, regional and district champion in the 3200 as a senior...Also won the district title in the 3200 as a sophomore and was the state runner-up...Helped his team to a second-place finish in the state in 2018...Part of the school recrod 4x800 team...Also on his high school bowling team for three seasons, and was a state quarterfinalist...Played high school baseball for one season as a pitcher and outfielder.

Personal: Son of Hoan and Joseph Valdez...Has one younger brother, Kyle...Was his high school valedictorian.
