Rice (2012-14): Played three seasons for the Owls, going 0-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 19 appearances…fanned 13 while walking seven in 25.1 innings of work…made his collegiate debut at Stanford, firing 1.1 shutout innings in 2012…notched a 3.86 ERA as a sophomore in 11 appearances…began the season with 7.0 consecutive shutout innings across four games to open the season…appeared in two contests as a junior, pitching 2.2 innings against Purdue and 1.1 inning against Texas A&M.

Prep: A two-time letterman at Klein High School in Spring, Texas…a First Team All-Greater Houston selection as a senior by the Houston Chronicle…named the Player of the Year by Champions Area-Sun…a first-team all-state pitcher by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and second team all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association during his senior campaign…a two-time first team All-District 13-5A honoree, earning the nomination as a pitcher in 2011 and a third baseman in 2010…went 13-2 on the mound with 129 strikeouts and a 1.17 ERA as a senior to lead the Bearkats to the finals of the state tournament…also batted .375…went 3-1 with a save and a 4.31 ERA as a junior while striking out 43 and hitting .322 with 38 RBI and 29 runs.

Personal: Born John Evan Rutter on Oct. 7, 1992…the son of Lisa and John Rutter…has one half-sister, Kristen…currently pursuing his Masters in homeland security at Tulane.
