Doug Stewart was named associate head coach for Tulane men’s basketball on April 27, 2016.
Prior to his arrival in New Orleans, Stewart spent the 2015-16 campaign as an assistant coach at Nevada under head coach Eric Musselman. Stewart was a key part of the Wolf Pack's 15-win turnaround from one season prior, finishing the year with a 24-14 record and winning the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) championship.
While at Nevada, Stewart led recruiting efforts and signed the 35th-best class in the nation in 2015, according to Rivals.com. The class proved to be one of the best in Mountain West Conference history, comprising a trio of future all-league players: Cam Oliver (First Team), Marcus Marshal (First Team), and Jordan Caroline (Second Team). The Wolf Pack became the first team in MWC and school history to win a national postseason tournament. Oliver received a multi-year NBA contract from the Houston Rockets in the summer of 2017.
Previous to his stint at Nevada, Stewart spent time on the professional circuit as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA Developmental League team, the Delaware 86ers.
Stewart worked six seasons in the Pac-12 Conference as the associate head coach at Oregon State from 2008-14, and briefly served as interim head coach in 2014. Among his accomplishments, he spearheaded the Beavers' recruiting efforts and helped them to the CBI crown in 2009. Stewart played an integral part in recruiting three future NBA players (Gary Payton II, Jared Cunningham and Eric Moreland), as well as Pac-12 scoring leader Roberto Nelson.
In 2009, he orchestrated the recruitment of the 10th-ranked class in the country according to Rivals.com, while Hoopscooponline.com tabbed the crop No. 22 overall.
Stewart was the top assistant at Brown University from 2006-08, where he was the recruiting coordinator in addition to his scouting and on-court responsibilities He helped the Bears to a school-record 19 wins during the 2007-08 season.
He also spent two seasons as the head coach at Casper College where he was in charge of all aspects of the Division I junior college program. The team was in contention for the Central Sub-Region title each season he coached the squad.
In 2003, Stewart worked as an assistant coach at Columbia University for current Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Armond Hill. He also coached at Washington and Lee University in 2002.
From 1994-99 Stewart was a player and coach with the Washington Generals. The Generals are the longtime opponent of the Harlem Globetrotters.
A four-year letterwinner and team captain at Brown, Stewart graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He was the recipient of the 1994 Thomas Hoagland Award, presented annually to the member of the varsity team who exemplifies true unselfishness through commitment and hard work, both on the court and in the community.
A native of Haddonfield, New Jersey, he was inducted into the Haddonfield Memorial High School Hall of Fame in 2009.
Stewart and his wife, Lindsay, have three sons, Sullivan, Griffin and Macklin.
