Dan Rickaby was hired on September 27, 2013 as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Tulane University. His primary responsibilities include developing the strength and conditioning program for the men’s basketball team.
Rickaby’s philosophy centers on scientifically researched methods applied in a practical setting focusing on improving strength, power, and speed by building a foundation of increasing general strength and stability and removing limitations, deficiencies and imbalances so the athlete can increase their efficiency and durability on the court.
Prior to coming to Tulane, Rickaby was the head strength and conditioning coach Chinese Senior National Men’s Basketball Team. While with Team China, the team qualified for the 2012 London Olympics in September of 2011 by winning the 2011 Asian Championship in Wuhan, China and then competed in the Olympics in 2012. Rickaby’s duties with Team China included writing the strength and conditioning programs and coaching athletes through all aspects of the strength and conditioning program.
Before Team China, Rickaby was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves assisting in the coaching of the athletes and travel, practice and game day duties for the 2010-2011 NBA season.
Rickaby’s additional work experience includes a year stint at the University of Michigan as a strength and conditioning professional intern assisting with the strength and conditioning programs for the men and women’s basketball and golf teams. Prior to Michigan, Rickaby spent 9 months as an intern with the Chicago Bulls in 2009 including as the acting head strength coach for the 2009 Summer League team in Las Vegas. While in Chicago, he also worked at TCBOOST, a private performance facility in Northbrook, Ill., specializing in speed and power development with athletes ranging from high school level to the professional level in multiple sports.
Rickaby is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, and is also a certified Heartsaver AED through the American Heart Association.
He received his bachelor of science degree in management of health and fitness from Northern Michigan University in May of 2007. He also received his master of science degree in human performance degree from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse in May of 2009. While pursuing his degree at UW-L, Rickaby was the strength and conditioning coach for the men and women’s basketball teams.
Rickaby currently resides in New Orleans.
