Tulane Comes Up Short at Florida Atlantic
Jan 21, 2026 | Men's Basketball
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tulane men's basketball (12–7, 3–3) suffered its third consecutive loss as it dropped a fierce battle on the road Florida Atlantic (14-6, 6-1) 74-79 on Wednesday night. The Green Wave outscored the Owls by six in the second half but that was not enough to overcome a strong shooting night by the home team inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
With the loss, the Wave dropped its first true road game of the season to fall to 3-1 in those contests. The defeat also marked the second-straight loss for Tulane at Florida Atlantic moving the series to a 2-2 tie in Boca Raton, Florida.
Curtis Williams Jr. was the highlight offensively for the Green Wave as he led three players with double digits in scoring for Tulane. Williams finished with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting including three makes from beyond the arc. He also had a perfect night from the charity stripe connecting on all eight of his free throw attempts. The performance marked the 13th game in double figures this season for Williams and his fourth 20-point game.
The duo of Rowan Brumbaugh and Tyler Ringgold were the other players to end the night in double figures. Brumbaugh posted 14 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Meanwhile, Ringgold finished with 13 points and six boards.
Florida Atlantic made the first move in the opening half putting the Wave behind by seven just over five minutes in the contest. The Green Wave was quick to respond with a 16-3 run to build its largest advantage of the night at 22-16 with 10:09 to play in the half.
However, the lead was short-lived for Tulane as the Owls answered with 11 unanswered to pull back in front. The deficit eventually reached double digits for the Wave as it hit the locker room trailing 32-43.
Tulane opened the second half on a four-point play by KJ Greene before Florida Atlantic responded to maintain its advantage. The deficit lingered around 10 points for much of the second half until the Green Wave made a push with under nine minutes remaining.
With 6:08 on the clock a put-back layup by Scotty Middleton made it a five-point game with the Green Wave trailing 61-66. The Owls quickly extended their lead back to 10, but Tulane did not back down eventually pulling within three with 14 seconds left.
Unfortunately, the Green Wave was never able to climb back in front as Florida Atlantic hit just enough free throws down the stretch. Tulane ultimately lost to the Owls 74-79.
Next, the Wave travels to face the Charlotte 49ers on Friday, January 23. Tipoff between Tulane and Charlotte is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
