Brumbaugh’s Career Night Not Enough to Complete Comeback at Charlotte
Jan 23, 2026 | Men's Basketball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Despite a career-performance by Rowan Brumbaugh and a 7-0 run to close the game Tulane men's basketball (12–8, 3–4) dropped its fourth-straight losing at Charlotte (11-9, 5-2)70-73 on Friday night. The matchup was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, January 25, but inclement weather expected in the Charlotte area moved the game up two days.
With the loss, the Wave has lost back-to-back road contests to fall to 3-2 in true road battles this season. The defeat also dropped Tulane to 11-17 all-time against the 49ers including a 4-9 mark in Charlotte.
Rowan Brumbaugh carried the offensive load for the Green Wave finishing with a career-high 35 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and 12-of-13 from the free throw line. The scoring performance by Brumbaugh marked his 13th consecutive game in double figures and his second 30-point game of the season. He also ended the night with a team-high five rebounds.
The only other player for Tulane to reach double digits was Asher Woods with 10 points. Meanwhile, Luke Rasmussen provided a much-needed spark off the bench in the second half as he posted eight points in seven minutes on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field with two threes made.
As the Wave and the 49ers went back-and-forth to open the contest in the first half it was Tulane that held the slight advantage early. With 13:03 on the clock the Green Wave held what would be its largest lead of the night at 9-5.
Charlotte eventually pulled in front of Tulane with under eight minutes remaining in the opening frame. After its deficit reached five points the Wave closed on an 8-4 run to hit the half trailing 22-23.
In the second half the 49ers started to make a push to pull away as the Green Wave faced its first double digit deficit (31-41) with 13:07 to play. Tulane eventually trailed by as many as 15 points (52-67) with just 2:57 remaining before making one last push to climb back into the game.
After pulling back within 10 points in the final minute the Wave mounted a 7-0 run but unfortunately ran out of time to complete a comeback falling 70-73 on the road.
Next, the Tulane returns home to host South Florida on Wednesday, January 28. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Bulls is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
