While her position at Tulane marks her first foray into the coaching ranks, Hester is no stranger to collegiate swimming after lettering four years at Davidson College (1998-2002), where she twice earned All-Southern State Conference honors (1999, 2000) and set five Top 10 times in the Wildcat record book.
A distance-freestyler during her days as a student-athlete, Hester ranks fifth all-time in the Davidson record books in the 500 and 1650, sixth in the 1000 and ninth in the 200. Hester also was a member of the record setting 4x200 freestyle relay.
An avid sportswoman, Hester set the 17-Senior age level record in the Hurricane-Man USA Swimming - a 2.4 mile rough-water swim - in 1998 swimming for St. Petersburg Aquatics with a time of 47:22. Also in her club swimming days, she qualified for Junior Nationals 3 consecutive years. A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Hester graduated high school from the Center for Advanced Technologies in 1998 and earned her bachelor of science in chemistry from Davidson in 2002. She is currently in her third year as a doctorial candidate in Tulane[apos]s prestigious chemistry program.
