NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's (3-1) Jake Gautreau drove in the winning run to push the No. 13 Green Wave to a 5-4 victory over McNeese State (4-1) on Tuesday evening.
Tulane held a 3-1 advantage heading into the seventh inning but Cowboy's Josh Salow and Ran Prince drove in runs to level the score at three apiece. The Green Wave answered in the bottom of the inning as Mickey McKee drove in a run on a ground out to third, which was followed by Gautreau's game winning RBI single to left.
Tulane pitcher Nick Bourgeois (1-0) picked up his first win of the season and his collegiate career. The freshman lefty went 7 1/3 innings, struck out nine and gave up three runs. All-American closer Brandon Belanger recorded his third save of the season as he struck out three in 1 2/3 innings pitched.
Chet Medlock (0-1) got the loss for McNeese as he went 3 2/3 innings, walked four and gave up two runs.
For the evening, Gautreau went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while McKee was 1-for-3 with one RBI, one double and two runs. Andy Cannizaro was 2-for-3 with a game high two doubles and one run.
Tulane plays Auburn on Friday, February 18 in the annual Winn Dixie Showdown. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. in the Superdome.
