
Baseball Falls To UNO

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane (5-2) baseball team couldn't overcome UNO's (3-3) strong offense as the Green Wave dropped a 7-3 decision to the Privateers in the final game of the Winn Dixie Showdown on Sunday.
Tulane was out hit by UNO 13-6. UNO's John Ballon stifled the Wave as he drove in three and scored two of the Privateer's seven runs. Ballon was 3-for-5 on the afternoon.
For Tulane Mickey McKee was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Nick Bourgeois was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI.
Green Wave pitcher Dan O'Gara (0-1) got his first loss of the season after he gave up seven runs, six earned, and 12 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Barth Melius replaced O'Gara in the seventh and went 2 1/3 giving up out hit and striking out three.
The winning pitcher was Shayler Hatch (1-1) who went 5 1/3 innings, gave up four hits, two runs, walked four and struck out two.
The Green Wave placed three players on the Winn Dixie Showdown All-Tournament team including one of the co-MVPs. Brandon Belanger was named MVP along with UNO's Steven Rowell, while James Jurries and Mickey McKee received all-tournament honors.
Tulane plays at Nicholls State on Tuesday, 22 at 6:30 p.m.
