NEW ORLEANS - Jared Berkowitz pitched complete game shutout leading Tulane (8-7) to a three game sweep of Rutgers (4-5) with a 3-0 win on Sunday.
The shutout was Berkowitz's (3-1) second of his career as he went nine innings and scattered seven hits. He struck out a season high seven batters and walked only one. Berkowitz is now four wins shy of the Tulane career win record with 29 victories over three plus seasons.
The Green Wave scored all three runs in the fourth inning as James Jurries started the bottom of the fourth with a lead off walk by Rutgers' Bob Brownlie. Mickey McKee drove in the first run of the day on a single to right center. Nick Bourgeois drove in the second run of the inning on a double down the left field line followed by a Nick Herz RBI single to center.
For Tulane, McKee went 2-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI.
Scarlet Knight pitcher Brownlie (0-1) got his first loss of the year after going seven plus innings. He gave up three runs, walked three and struck out three.
Despite seven hits the Scarlet Knights couldn't score any runs. They were lead by Todd Speedy who went 3-for-4.
Tulane plays McNeese State on Wednesday, March 8 in Lake Charles, La. First pitch is for 7:00 p.m. The games are scheduled to be broadcast on 88.3 FM WRBH and over the internet via www.broadcast.com.
