Tulane Baseball Falls To UNCC, 10-7

NEW ORLEANS, La. - UNCC's John McKay held Tulane scoreless through five innings allowing the 49ers to mount a comeback and defeat the Wave 10-7 on Sunday.
Tulane jumped to a 7-2 lead, as they posted three runs in the second and third and on in the fourth, but McKay relieved UNCC starter Brannon Hamby in the fourth and shut the Wave offense down. McKay (1-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowed just three hits, no runs and struck out four. The 49ers went on to score eight unanswered runs and defeated the Wave 10-7.
The losing pitcher was Henry Bonilla (5-3) who scattered 11 hits and eight runs through 6 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out six.
James Jurries, Jake Gautreau and Steve Shirley each hit home runs for Tulane. The trio was responsible for five of the Wave's seven runs. Shirley was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Tulane extends its double-digit hit streak to seven.
Charlotte's Eric Shanks was 3-for-5 with five RBI a home run and a pair of runs scored.
Tulane begins the week with a Tuesday evening game with Nicholls State at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. UNO hosts the Wave at Zephyr Field at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
