
Solo Homer By Jurries In Ninth Secures Baseball Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - James Jurries' ninth inning solo home run ensured a 4-2 Tulane (31-16-1, 14-4-1 C-USA) victory over Memphis (15-29, 8-10 C-USA) on Friday evening.
The Green Wave put up single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to took a 3-0 through six innings. Tulane's Jared Berkowitz pitched a perfect three innings before giving up his first hit in the fourth. After six scoreless innings, the Tigers scored two in the seventh to come within one run of the Wave.
Closer Brandon Belanger replaced Berkowitz in the eighth and pitched the final 1 1/3 innings. The Green Wave held a 3-2 advantage heading into the ninth but Jurries belted a home run into left giving the Wave a 4-2 win.
Berkowitz (11-1) picked up his 11th win of the season as he went 7 2/3 innings, scattered five hits and struck out a career high 11 batters. Berkowitz became the Tulane leader in innings pitched. He has recorded 390 1/3 innings through his three plus years as a Greenie. Belanger pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings en route to his ninth save of the season.
Jurries, Jake Gautreau and Nick Bourgeois each sent in runs for Tulane. Jurries was 2-for-5 with a home run and a double.
Jarod Wilson (1-4) got the loss for the Tigers. He went 7 2/3 innings, gave up three runs and struck out five.
The teams play game two on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
