
Tulane Baseball Falls To ULL, 3-2

LAFAYETTE, La. - With two outs in the ninth inning, Louisiana-Lafayette (29-2) rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat Tulane (20-12-1) 3-2 on Wednesday evening.
The Green Wave jumped to an early lead in the second as Steve Shirley hit an RBI double into center sending in Tulane's first run of the night. With a runner on third James Burgess grounded out to the shortstop allowing Shirley to score.
Tulane's Henry Bonilla (4-2) gave up one hit in the first and then retired the next 12 batters before walking one in the fifth. Heading into the ninth Bonilla allowed one hit, walked one and struck out a season high 12 Ragin Cajuns.
In the bottom of the ninth, ULL recorded two base hits and a double steal to place runners on second and third. Tommy Clark tied the game at two runs each with a triple in to center. The game winning run was scored on a fielding error by Tulane second baseman James Jurries.
The winning pitcher for ULL was Trey Bullinger (2-0). He went one inning and gave up one hit.
For Tulane, Jake Gautreau was 3-for-4 with one double. While Shirley was 1-for-4 with a double, one run and an RBI.
Tulane hosts Conference USA rival Saint Louis this weekend at Turchin Stadium. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m.
