COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) led the Tulane University men's cross country team to a third place finish at the NCAA South Central District Championships Saturday at Texas A&M University.
Kandie posted a time of 30:28 over the 10-kilometer course to earn fifth-place and a bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships to be held next Monday (Nov. 19) in Greenville, S.C. Njubi Eliud from TCU won the event with a time of 30:02.
Kandie's time set a new Tulane school mark in the 10-kilometer cross country race. Last weekend, Kandie set a new school record in the eight-kilometers as he led the Wave to the Conference USA Championship.
Arkansas took the men's team title with 56 points, followed by Texas with 115 points and Tulane with 125. The top two teams earn bids to the NCAA Championships, as well as the top four individuals not on one of the top two teams.
On the women's side, Arkansas also won with 36 points, followed by Texas with 85 points. Tulane had one individual finisher on the women's side: senior Katrina Gemmell (Plamerston North, New Zealand), who finished 19th overall with a time of 21:43 on the six-kilometer course.
