Four Tulane Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District
Jun 23, 2026 | Cross Country, Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced today the 2025-26 Academic All-District® honorees for cross country and track and field as selected by the organization to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and academically. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes cross country and track and field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Four Green Wave athletes earned the distinction this year, one from the men's teams and three from the women's teams. Bernard Cheruiyot was the lone male representative, and the trio representing the women are Sofie Groeninger, Haley Harper, and Alex Sharp.
Cheruiyot is a sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya. He is an exercise science major and earned another academic honor after the conclusion of the cross country campaign in the fall, securing USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition. In the fall, Cheruiyot was the runner-up at both the American Conference Championships and the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. His performances aided in the Tulane men winning the South Central Regional, a program first, as the Wave became the first squad other than Texas or Arkansas to ever win the meet. In the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Cheruiyot ran a 28:59.3 to finished 29th and earn All-America status.
Groeninger is a junior from Anzing, Germany, and is an economics major. Specializing in combined events, Groeninger shined in both the indoor and outdoor American Conference meets. At the American Indoor Championships, Groeninger placed third in the pentathlon to secure a bronze medal with 3,803 points. In the American Outdoor Championships, she was sixth in the pentathlon. In both events, she topped the leaderboard in the shot put. Her 14.20m shot put mark in the outdoor event was a new personal best and is now fourth all-time in Tulane program history. With a heptathlon high of 5,264 points this season, Groeninger ranked 32nd in the NCAA East Region.
Harper is a junior from Plano, Texas. A communications major, Harper competed in both cross country and indoor track and field. During the fall, she placed fifth in the Battle for New Orleans and then finished eighth in the American Conference Championships, aiding in Tulane's conference title. Her time of 20:41.8 in the conference meet is a new 6K personal best. At the NCAA South Central Regional, Harper finished 26th with a time of 21.12.3. During the indoor campaign, she set a trio of personal bests, beginning with a 4:57.43 in the mile at the Vanderbilt Invitational. In two different events in Boston, she posted a 9:37.16 in the 3,000m and then a 16:47.90 in the 5,000m. Her 3,000m time is eighth in program history, and she is fifth in the 5,000m.
Sharp is a senior from Brookfield, Missouri, and graduated in May with a degree in English. In cross country, Sharp placed fourth in the Battle for New Orleans to open the season. She was 16th in the American Conference Championships to aid in Tulane's team title. At the NCAA South Central Regional, Sharp placed 43rd with her time of 21.42.9. She set a trio of personal bests in the indoor campaign, setting top marks in the mile (4:57.19), 3,000m (9:36.51), and the 5,000m (16:38.09). Her 3,000m time is eighth in program history, and her 5,000m mark is fourth.
Academic All-District honorees must sport at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. For graduate students, that threshold must be met during both their undergraduate and graduate studies. For track and field and cross country, eligible nominees are based on TFRRS regional performance rankings. For cross country eligibility, a student-athlete must boast a top-50 individual performance at the NCAA regional competition. For track and field, eligible student-athletes must have a top-50 regional ranking in a single event (indoor or outdoor).
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on July 14 for the men and July 15 for the women.
