Trio of Tulane Student-Athletes Earn American Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honors
Jul 16, 2026 | Women's Basketball, Women's Swimming and Diving, Cross Country
IRVING, Texas – The American Conference announced today its selections for the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards for each sport with three Tulane student-athletes recognized. Rogerio Amaral secured the honor for men's cross country, Amira Mabry was recognized for women's basketball, and Andrea Zeebe repeated as the winner for women's swimming and diving. The selections for the 22 American Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, as well as the Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, are made by the league's academic committee on the basis of academic credentials and athletic performance.
Rogerio Amaral is a native of Coimbra, Portugal, and working on a graduate degree in anatomy. In his first season with the Green Wave after transferring from South Carolina, Amaral made an immediate impact as an American All-Conference performer in cross country. His efforts aided in the Tulane men's team finishing as the conference runner-up before delivering a historic victory in the NCAA South Central Regional, a program first, as the Wave became the first squad other than Texas or Arkansas to secure the regional title. Amaral was 12th in that competition with a time of 30:04.3. He was named Men's USTFCCCA All-Region while garnering All-Academic Athlete honors from the organization. Prior to joining the Wave, Amaral was a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree and a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient while at South Carolina.
Amira Mabry is a native of Converse, Texas, and graduated in May with her second degree from Tulane University in just four years, a master's degree in neuroscience. The forward was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and was a winter nominee for the Allstate GoodWorks Team. On the court, Mabry became the 33rd 1,000-point scorer in program history and finished her career with 1,083 points to rank 23rd all-time in program history. Mabry secured her 500th career rebound this past season and ranked 17th in the American with 185 total boards at an average of 6.0 per game. She earned a weekly American Honorable Mention nod on February 27 and scored in double figures 17 times with a pair of double-doubles.
Andrea Zeebe is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, who graduated from Tulane in May with a degree in neuroscience. Zeebe repeats as the American Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's swimming and diving after claiming the recognition in 2025. She is also a back-to-back CSC Academic All-District honoree in 2025 and 2026. Zeebe was twice selected as American Swimmer of the Week in the 2025-26 campaign and was a medalist in the 800 free relay at the American Conference Championships to assist in Tulane's overall third-place result. Zeebe was a 2025 CSCAA Scholar All-American and has secured American Conference All-Academic Team honors all four years of her career. Like Mabry, Zeebe was a winter nominee for the 2026 Allstate GoodWorks Team.
With three total honorees, Tulane is tied for the second most by a school in the conference with East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, and Charlotte. Only Rice had more winners with five total.
