Virginia Cruises to Victory Over LIU in Doubletree Classic

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Anna Prillaman scored a career-high 22 points, including five three-pointers to lead the University of Virginia to a 73-40 victory over Long Island University in women's basketball action at the Tulane-DoubleTree Classic at Fogelman Arena on Friday evening.
Virginia (6-3) will meet host Tulane in the Championship game at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Long Island (4-5) plays Buffalo in the consolation game at 6 p.m.
Long Island's Tamika Dudley hit a three-pointer as the shot clock sounded top pull the Blackbirds within three at 26-23 with six minutes to go in the first half.
However, Virginia pulled together and posted a 35-8 run, building a 61-31 lead with 12:33 to go in the contest.
In addition to Prinnaman, Virginia had 17 points from Brandi Teamer, while Telisha Quarles added 10 points. LIU was led by Dudley's 14 points and 13 points from Jessica Brookes. The Blackbirds' Kim MacMillan connected on one three-pointer to match the NCAA record of 53 consecutive games with a three-pointer.
Virginia connected on 56.4 percent (31-of-55) of its shots, including 8-of-16 three-pointers. LIU struggled with just 28.8 percent shooting (17-of-59). The Blackbirds attempted 32 three-pointers, hitting just six. The Cavaliers outscored Long Island, 38-12 in the paint, while also scoring 22 points off LIU turnovers.
