NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Fresh off its upset of No. 18 Florida on Sunday, the Tulane women's basketball team has earned a spot in the most recent ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll.
The Green Wave enter the latest poll ranked 25th, just behind No. 23 Old Dominion and No. 24 George Washington, who both sport 2-3 records. Tulane was listed 39th in last week's Coaches' poll. The Green Wave are currently 6-1 with its lone loss coming to Purdue, who is ranked eighth in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll.
"It is nice for our program to get some national recognition," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "Our win against Florida was obviously a good one and I felt like we gave Purdue a very good game, but were just unable to pull it out in the end. Hopefully we can build on this week and continue to get better as a team."
This week's ranking is Tulane's first since the final poll of the 1999-00 season, when the Wave were ranked 22nd by the Associated Press and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' listings. Tulane is currently receiving votes in the most recent Associated Press listings.
Tulane returns to action on Wednesday, as the Green Wave will travel to face Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. The Lady Bears shared the Missouri Valley Conference title last season with Drake, another Tulane opponent, before reaching the Final Four.
