Pepperdine Hands Baseball First Loss

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (8-1) baseball team suffered its first loss of the season to Pepperdine (7-0) 12-2 on Friday evening.
Only 10 of the 12 Pepperdine runs were earned as the Green Wave made costly errors. The Waves cashed in on the Tulane mistakes and scored five runs in the second and six runs in the fifth.
Tulane's only runs came in the fourth innings as the Pepperdine pitching stunned the Wave. Tulane scored a pair of runs sent in by Michael Aubrey and Jay Heintz.
The winning pitcher was Daniel Haren (3-0). He went seven innings, gave up two runs, walked no one and struck out eight. Reliever Kevin Beavers pitched two innings and gave up one hit.
Matt Foster (1-1) got the loss for Tulane. He went 4 1/3 innings, struck out five and gave up one earned run.
Tulane's Matt Groff extended his hitting streak to games. Jake Gautreau was 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Pepperdine's Woody Clifford was 5-for-5 with one RBI and three runs, while Danny Garcia was 3-for-6 with four RBI.
