THIBODAUX, La. - The Tulane (10-2) baseball team scored seven runs in the eighth inning and posted a dramatic 14-6 come-from-behind win over Nicholls State (5-7) on Tuesday evening. The victory was the 300th of Rick Jones' tenure as the Tulane head coach.
Despite trailing 6-4 heading into the eighth inning, Tulane rallied and put up seven runs and took an 11-6 lead. Matt Groff, Steve Shirley Andy Cannizaro, Jake Gautreau and Anthony Giarratano each sent in runs lifting the Green Wave past the Colonels.
Three more runs were added in the ninth to solidify the Tulane victory.
Tulane's Groff sent in a game high four RBI. He was 2-for-3 with one run scored and has hits in all of Tulane's games this season. Jake was 3-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. Cannizaro sent in a pair of runs and extended his current hitting streak to 10 games.
The winning pitcher was Matt Foster (2-1). He pitched five innings of relief scattered two hits and gave up one earned run. He struck out eight.
Losing pitcher Eron Morrow (0-1) went 1 1/3 innings, gave up two hits and three runs.
Tulane heads to the West Coast for a three-game series with UCLA beginning on Friday, February 23. The game begins at 7:00 p.m. CST.
