
Tulane Baseball Upsets LSU 13-3

BATON ROUGE, La. -
Green Wave freshman Michael Aubrey hit for the cycle and lead the Tulane (14-3) baseball team to a 13-3 upset over LSU (12-4-1) on Wednesday in Baton Rouge.
8,029 fans saw the Green Wave out hit LSU 18-9. The 18 hits are a season high for Tulane.
Aubrey is the first Green Wave since 1999 to hit for the cycle. Teammate James Jurries was the last player to accomplish this. On the evening, Aubrey was 4-for-6 with a career high five RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Steve Shirley was 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Jake Gautreau was 3-for-6, while Matt Groff was 3-for-4. Freshman Anthony Giarratano went 3-for-6 with two RBI.
Tulane came out swinging and scored four runs in the top of the first. Three of the four runs were sent in on a bases loaded triple by freshman Michael Aubery.
The Wave added a three spot in the top of the third but the Tigers answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Mike Fontenot and Todd Linden each sent in runs and the third run was scored on a wild pitch by Tulane starting pitcher Beau Richardson. The score was 7-3 in Tulane's favor after three innings.
In the fourth, Tulane's Aaron Feldman sent in Jake Gautreau on a sacrifice fly. Steve Shirley smashed a solo home run into left center in the sixth to give Tulane a 9-3 lead.
Aubrey gave the Wave an eight-run cushion with a two-run homer over the center field wall. Tulane added a pair of runs in the ninth.
Richardson (4-0) picked up his fourth win of the season. He went five innings, gave up six hits and three runs, all unearned. He struck out two. Barth Melius pitched four innings of scoreless relief and got the save. He struck out four and gave up three hits.
The losing pitcher was Roy Corcoran (3-1). He gave up seven runs, four earned, and struck out four through three innings.
LSU's Brian Moore was 2-for-4.
Tulane hosts Siena College this weekend in a three game series beginning on Friday, March 9. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
