
Tulane Pounds Southern Miss, 22-3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Tulane (35-8, 13-5 C-USA) baseball team posted a season high in runs and hits as they swept Conference USA rival Southern Miss (20-24, 6-12 C-USA) with a 22-3 win on Sunday. The game was called after seven innings, due to the 10-run rule.
Aaron Feldman and Jake Gautreau had career high days. Gautreau tied a career high seven RBI and Feldman set career bests in home runs with a pair and drove in four runs.
It looked like a long after noon for Tulane starter Nick Bourgeois as he started the bottom of the first with a hit batter, a single by Ben Mosley and a wild pitch advancing the runners into scoring position with no outs. Bourgeois settled and retired the side on two strikeouts and a pop up to the catcher.
The Wave?s first run of the game came in the second inning as Matt Mann reached on a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Feldman. Mann?s hit was his first in seven games. He was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Clint Stoy started the Golden Eagles? second inning with a double but was gunned down at the plate by Tulane left fielder Michael Aubrey for the final out of the inning.
Tulane put up five runs in the fourth inning, capped off by a Steve Shirley two-run home run into left.
Green Wave starter Nick Bourgeois held the Golden Eagles scoreless through three innings. After striking out the lead off man in the fourth, Bourgeois hit Bobby Garner. Clint Stoy followed with a two-run home run into left. Tulane held a 9-2 advantage.
Bourgeois (2-1) picked up his second win of the season. He went six innings, scattered five hits and gave up two runs. Bourgeois struck out six.
Two home runs in the Tulane fifth, by Jake Gautreau and Feldman, sent in four of the five runs. Mann sent in the fifth on a single. The Wave held a 14-2 lead. On the day, Feldman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Kaplan, Gautreau and Aubrey had three-hit days.
Tulane proceeded to score six runs in the sixth and a pair in the seventh. Southern Miss scored one run in the seventh.
Green Wave reliever Michael Aubrey entered the game in the seventh. He pitched the final inning, gave up two hits and one unearned run.
The losing pitcher was Chad Rogers (4-6). He went three innings, gave up six hits and four runs.
Tulane defends its 9-0 record against instate opponents on Wednesday, April 25. Tulane hosts UNO at Zephyr Field.
