
Tulane Rallies To Defeat UAB, 11-6

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- For the ninth time this season, the Tulane (37-8, 14-5 C-USA) baseball team won a game in its last at bat, this time posting an 11-6 win over UAB (22-21, 5-14 C-USA) on Friday evening.
Tulane trailed the Blazers most of the game, as UAB starter Joe Yarbrough held the Wave hitless until the fourth inning. Jake Gautreau doubled off the center field wall driving in Tulane's first run of the game and tying the game at one run each.
The Green Wave extended its lead in the sixth, scoring three runs on a Michael Aubrey single and a Matt Groff double.
UAB battled and took the lead back in the seventh on an Al Hecklinski three-run home run into left. The Blazers added an additional run in the eighth as Mark Garner led off the inning with a solo home run giving UAB a 6-4 advantage.
The UAB defense fell apart in the bottom of the eighth as they committed four errors and allowed seven runs to score. Gautreau capped off the inning with a three-run shot over the right field wall.
On the evening Gautreau was 2-for-5 with a game high four RBI. Groff was 1-for-1 with a pair of RBI. Andy Cannizaro's 16-game hitting streak was snapped as he went 0-for-3. He sent in one run.
Tulane's Joey Charron (2-0) got the win. He pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief and struck out four. Aubrey started the game for the Wave and went 6 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs and struck out four.
The losing pitcher was Blake Allen (3-4). He gave up four runs in 1/3 of an inning.
The teams play game two on Saturday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m.
