
Baseball Announces Fall Practice Schedule

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University baseball will begin preparations for the 2002 season when the Green Wave opens fall practice on Tuesday, Oct. 9, head coach Rick Jones announced today.
Tulane, which made its first ever trip to the College World Series in 2001, has 23 practices and16 intrasquad games scattered over a four-week period as per NCAA regulation, and will conclude fall ball with a five-game "World Series" from Oct. 31 through Nov. 4.
While All-Americans Jake Gautreau and Andy Cannizaro have gone on to join the professional ranks, the Green Wave returns five positional starters and five of the top six pitchers from the 2001 club that led all NCAA Division I squads with 56 victories. Included in the list of returning players are first-team Freshman All-Americans Michael Aubrey and Anthony Giarratano, along with All-Conference USA honorees James Jurries and Jon Kaplan.
The Green Wave set numerous records in 2001 and accomplished a host of team firsts, including its first NCAA Regional and Super Regional Championships, as well as the team's first ever trip to the College World Series. Along the way, seven Tulane players earned first-team all-conference honors, two earned C-USA All-Freshman recognition, four players earned All-America honors and Jones was named C-USA Coach of the Year.
