NEW ORLEANS - On the heels of the tremendous success of the 2001 Tulane Baseball season, tickets in the grandstand of Turchin Stadium for the 2002 season have sold out, TU Associate Athletics Director Scott Sidwell announced Tuesday. In addition, the Green Wave has sold a record 1,500 season tickets overall, with approximately 1,000 of those in the grandstand.
Tulane has not sold out the Turchin Stadium grandstand for season tickets since the stadium was built in 1991. The 1,500 season tickets sold marks a 100% increase from the 2001 season with more than three weeks remaining before the regular season home opener Feb. 15 versus Villanova.
"Certainly coming off the College World Series appearance last year, we thought there would be a lot of interest in Tulane Baseball this year and that has been proven so far," Sidwell said. "However, we still do have season tickets for sale and would love to see our season ticket total go above 2,000 by February 15th."
General admission season tickets remain on sale through the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office in the James W. Wilson Center or by calling 504-861-WAVE. Price of the general admission season ticket for all 32 home games, including the Tulane-LSU and Tulane-UNO games at Zephyr Field, is $125 for adults, $50 for youth (ages 2-18) and $65 for senior citizens (+65). Season ticket holders have the first opportunity to purchase postseason tournament tickets and additional tickets for the Tulane-LSU game at Zephyr Field on April 9.
"This says a lot about the interest in college baseball in New Orleans and Louisiana," said Tulane Head Coach Rick Jones. "It also speaks to the expectations our fans have about the upcoming season. All players and coaches enjoy playing in front of large, enthusiastic crowds. That's something our players thrive on and our coaches sell in recruiting everyday."
Tulane, ranked third, seventh and 10th in the three college baseball preseason polls, opened practice Tuesday and will play an exhibition game versus the TU baseball alumni on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. in Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave opens the regular season with a three-game series at Pepperdine Feb. 8-10 before the home-opening series versus Villanova Feb. 15-17.
