NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University track and field program completed its early signing period by inking two more talented high school stars, head coach Heather Van Norman announced on Thursday.
New Orleans native Keriann Langley of Mount Carmel High School and middle-distance star Sierra Henderson from Auburn, Wash., both signed National Letters of Intent with Tulane this week.
"I am very pleased with our recruiting class," Van Norman said. "We added four outstanding individuals who will all come in and make an impact on our program. I could not be happier with the commitments we have received."
Langley and Henderson join earlier signings Aubrey Phillips from Baton Rouge and Rachel Bryan from Elk Grove, Calif.
On Tuesday, Langley won her second straight Class 5A Cross Country state title. She is the composite (all classes) state record holder at 3200 meters and the defending 5A State champ at 1600 meters and 3200 meters outdoors. Langley is also the 3000-meter indoor state champ from last year and a four-time all-state selection (twice in track and twice in cross country). She didn't compete in cross country as a freshman or sophomore
"Keriann is without a doubt one of the finest high school distance runners Louisiana has ever seen," said Green Wave assistant coach Mike Corn, who handles Tulane's distance runners. "She will have an immediate impact on our program; she is extremely talented and is simply a delight to be around."
Henderson is a middle-distance standout for Auburn High. She anchored her school's 4x400 relay team to the Washington State Championship as a junior and also finished third in the state in the 400-meter dash. As a sophomore, she finished fifth in the 800-meter run at the state championships after a third-place finish as a freshman. She has personal-best times of 55.11 in the 400 meters and 2:13.54 in the 800. She also plays soccer at Auburn and has earned academic all-state recognition.
"Sierra is an outstanding and versatile runner," Van Norman said. "She has tremendous potential to be one of the top middle distance runners at Tulane. She has an excellent work-ethic and will be a great addition to the program."
Tulane will open its track and field season on Saturday, Dec. 6 when it hosts a preseason meet at the Westfeldt Complex.
