BATON ROUGE, La. - In its final warm-up for next weekend's Conference USA Indoor Track Championships, Tulane University participated in the LSU Twilight Invitational on Friday night.
The Green Wave had its best showing of the indoor season, winning one event and taking a second-place finish, two thirds and a fourth.
For the fourth week in a row, freshman Lindsey Karlik set a new school record in the pole vault as the Wyoming native won the event on Friday by clearing 11 feet, nine and three-quarters inches. Her vault beat her previous record by more than seven inches.
Sophomore Helmi Leppanen had a season-best effort in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 11 and three-quarters inches to earn second place.
Junior Eva Lustigova and freshman Marilyn Sauls both registered third-place finishes in the meet. Lustigova took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.13, while Sauls had a long jump of 18 feet, five inches.
Senior Aisha Otori was the fourth-place finisher for the Green Wave, as she leapt a career-best 38 feet, four and three-quarters inches in the triple jump.
Tulane is back in action next weekend when it travels to the University of Houston for the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
