Tulane led by as many as 12 in the second half before Arkansas State mounted a rally. With the Wave holding a 56-51 lead at the 1:54 mark, the Indians got a free throw to cut the lead to four before hitting one of two technical free throws to cut the Tulane advantage to three, 56-53, with 21 seconds left. Hampton added a pair of free throws to push the margin back to five, but Arkansas State's Amber Abraham answered with a three-pointer from the left corner to bring the Indians to within two with 12 seconds remaining. Tulane in-bounded the ball to D'Aundra Henry, who was fouled, but the sophomre missed both of her free throws. However, Hampton grabbed an offensive rebound of the second miss and made her first free throw with one second left to seal the win.

"We got a couple of wins under our belt to close out non-conference play," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said, referring to the wins over Arkansas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. "Hopefully we can take that momentum into the start of Conference USA play on Saturday. I thought Lakethia did a great job on the boards for us tonight and she grabbed some big rebounds down the stretch."
For the second straight game, Tulane clamped down on its opponent from behind the three-point line in the second half. Arkansas State hit a pair of three's inside the first four minutes of the game, but didn't get their third until Abraham's shot with 12 seconds left. For the game, the Wave held the Indians to just 33.3 percent shooting from behind the arc (3-of-9), including just a 1-of-6 showing (16.7 percent) in the second half.
Tulane forced 25 Arkansas State turnovers, converting those into 26 points. The Wave also had seven blocked shots, three coming from junior Tymeka Moore.
Tulane returns to action on Saturday, as the Green Wave begin Conference USA play with a road game at Southern Miss. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.
