WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Lindsay Hulwick and junior Liliana Alvarez shot one-over par 73s as the Tulane University women's golf team wrapped up the 2004 fall season by finishing tied for third at The Landfall Tradition Sunday afternoon at the par 72, 6,034-yard Country Club of Landfall-Nicklaus.
The Green Wave, one of seven participating teams ranked in the Top 25, finished the three-day event with a 19-over par 883 (303-281-299) and was tied with Ohio State (299-299-285). Tulane was just two strokes behind second-placed UNC-Wilmington (300-290-291=881) and five strokes off team champion New Mexico (297-285-296=878).
"This was a good tournament for us to play in to end the fall season," head coach Sue Bower said. "While we obviously would have like to finish higher than a tie for third, the field was good and we played very well. We learned a lot about ourselves throughout the fall, and this bodes extremely well for us as we now focus on our spring season."
Hulwick led the Green Wave with a three-day, one-over par 217 (75-69-73) to finish tied for seventh in the individual race, and Alvarez was one stroke back with a 218 (75-70-73) to finish tied for ninth. Sophomore Alison Walshe was next for Tulane, finishing 24th with a 224 (77-71-76), and senior Alexis Wooster was one stroke behind with a 225 to finish tied for 25th. Sophomore Mary Ellen Jacobs, who was playing the weekend with a strained back, rounded out the Green Wave scorers with a 228 (77-74-77) to finish tied for 36th.
Chris Brady of Vanderbilt won the individual title with a seven-under par 209 (69-72-71), taking medalist honors by two strokes over New Mexico's Kailin Downs (73-67-71=211).
With the conclusion of the fall season, the Green Wave's next tournament will be on Feb. 3-5 when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the 2005 Sun Trust Lady Gator.
