Tampa, FL (February 22, 2004) - All-America candidate Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) scored a game high 24 points and Anedra Gilmore (Jacksonville, FL) added 15 points, a school record 14 assists, and nine rebounds - falling one rebound shy of a triple-double - in helping the Bulls to a 77-60 win over Tulane in USF's home finale this afternoon. The win was the Bulls' third straight and fifth in the past six games. The win also marks USF's first three-game winning streak in Conference USA play since the 1998-99 season.
Tulane (9-17, 2-11 C-USA) got the upper hand early leading for just about the entire first half until Dickson scored four points - on a jumper with 1:11 left to make it 28-27 Green Wave and then with 38 seconds left giving the Bulls its first lead of the game, 29-28, a lead they would never relinquish.
Dickson came into the game just eight points shy of becoming the all-time Conference USA freshman scoring leader and would hold the record entering the locker room at the intermission, as the Bulls held a 29-28 halftime edge.
USF came out in the second half and took control turning its one point edge into a seven-point advantage (35-28) just 1:40 into the half.
The Bulls would shoot 51.5% (17-33) from the field, after the break, and forced the Green Wave into nine-second half turnovers.
On the afternoon USF shot 45.3% (29-64) from the field, including 38.5% (5-13) from three-point range.
In addition, the Bulls' bench continues to play a major role in their recent success. The USF reserves outscored the Green Wave bench 38-7 in the win.
Nalini Miller (Capital Heights, MD) would round out the Bulls' double figure scorers netting 12 points in 23 minutes.
Tulane had three players in double figures led by Lakethia Hampton's 17 points and 11 rebounds. D'Aundra Henry and Kelly Nadeau chipped in with 14 and 12 points respectively.
