NEW ORLEANS, La. - Well, it's Thursday and I'm running about three days behind with this week's post. I'm sorry about that, but I know you guys understand that we're taking finals so my free time is pretty scarce. I've knocked two of them down already, and I have two more to go before I finish with my business law final next Tuesday. The good news, though, is that after my final tomorrow, I get to forget about it all and play some baseball.
Last week, we posted a 2-2 record, but I liked the way we played. We pounded out a lot of hits in the loss against LSU in the Superdome, and also hit a lot of balls hard but right at them. Then, against Memphis, we were able to come home with a two-out-of-three series win against a solid Memphis team that has really been playing well. Memphis' starting pitching was, in my mind, the best we have seen all year, which didn't make it easier on us being that two of the games were only seven innings, not leaving much time to get into their bullpen. A sweep would have been great, but we'll take the two wins, especially considering how we bounced back in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader after coming out flat in the first.
South Florida comes to town this weekend. Being in the C-USA title hunt is exciting and every game is important, so we need to make sure that we come out with the same type of mindset we had against Southern Miss. A sweep this weekend is imperative if we want a shot at the title. East Carolina isn't letting up in conference play, so we need to make sure we stay in close enough striking distance so that they feel the pressure in their final three series against Saint Louis, TCU and Southern Miss. The only thing we can control, though, are our games. But, after looking at the remaining schedules of all involved, I really believe that we are in control of our own destiny. We need you guys to come cheer us on this weekend, though.
Ok, well I've got to get back to the books. I hope to see you guys at the park this weekend. Games are at 6:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m. as usual. Let's show the USF Bulls what playing at Turchin is all about. Later guys.
Roll Wave,
Tommy
