Hello Green Wave Fans,
What an exciting year it was for our team considering the unprecedented events that took place last fall. I still remember sitting in Lubbock, Texas, wondering if we would ever play again in New Orleans, and in the end, we ended up playing in the NCAA tournament. Although we did not advance as far as we would have liked, I believe this entire season was nothing less than a success story. We had so many adjustments that we had to make in order to have the season we did.
When we first arrived back in New Orleans, many of our guys did not have housing to live in. Many of them bunked with some of the other guys, and I know one of them (Matt Goebel) lived out of his car the entire time until their house was finished about a month ago. He even had the back of his car set up as a dresser. Although some of our guys were "homeless", not once did they stop playing hard.
Another adjustment we had to make was playing at Zephyr Field all season long. Nothing is better than playing games in front of a full house at Turchin, but we adjusted quite well to Zephyr. I want to thank the entire New Orleans Zephyrs organization for allowing us to use their facilities.
There were times during the season that we had our struggles and people were down about us, but if there is one thing about this team that I will never forget is their "Never Quit" attitude. This team was special in so many ways and the one thing that allowed us to accomplish what we did was the size of the hearts in every single player. Never once have I played with a team whose hearts were bigger than this 2006 club. It will be a team that I will never forget and I am so thankful to be apart of.
Unfortunately it is the end of the road for me as a Tulane student-athlete, and I just want to thank all the fans for their support over the years. It was a privilege to play for this program for four years and an experience I will never forget. Thanks goes out to Coach Jones, Coach Sutter, Coach King, and Coach Weatherford for everything they have done for me. It will never be forgotten.
Also I want to say congratulations to Mark Hamilton and Nathan Southard on being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the draft this past week. I wish you guys the best of luck and represent the Green Wave well.
I will be back next year to watch this team make a run for the national title. I hope to see all you fans back at the park next year, and once again thanks for everything. I will miss this program greatly. It has been a great ride, and I thank you for being a part of it with me.
