New Orleans- The Green Wave baseball club is California-bound, as they prepare for their first road series this weekend against nationally-ranked UC Irvine (8-4). The Green Wave, 10-5, is fresh off of a 15-7 victory over McNeese State Tuesday night, after taking two of three games from the University of Southern California last weekend.
The Green Wave will send right-hander Conrad Flynn to the hill Friday night to face Daniel Bibona (2-1), a lefty with a 4.19 ERA, with Tulane hurlers Matt Petiton (2-0) and Josh Zeid (3-0) slated to pitch Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Anteaters' Christian Bergman (2-0, 2.75 ERA) and Crosby Slaught (1-0, 4.26 ERA) are set to toss the weekend games for UC Irvine.
Tulane has won their last three contests with victories over USC on Mar. 7 and 8 and their most recent win over McNeese State Tuesday. The Wave is lead by Steve Moritz (.440, 4 doubles, 8 RBI) and Sam Honeck (.333, 3 home runs, 6 doubles and 22 RBI). The Anteaters' Ryan Fisher leads the team with a .368 average with 3 doubles, a home run and 10 RBI, while Cory Olson is batting .333 with three extra base hits and four RBI.
Tulane faced the Anteaters for the first time in the schools' histories last season, with UCI winning the series, two games to one. The Green Wave's victory came when Tulane's Shooter Hunt picked up his second win of the season after out-dueling UCI's Scott Gorgen. Hunt went 7.0 innings, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit.
The Green Wave will face UC Irvine in Game 4 of the all-time series beginning Friday night at 8PM Central Time.
