USA Wins World Baseball Challenge

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia -- USA emerged victorious as the collegiate national team beat Germany, 8-1, in the championship game at the 2009 Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline World Baseball Challenge at Prince George Citizen Field over the weekend.
Tulane's Nick Pepitone, who helped to close out the championship game on Sunday, finished the summer season without issuing any runs. Pepitone made eight appearances out of the bullpen for Team USA, while tossing 14.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He relinquished just two hits while striking out five, holding opposing batters to a .045 average. The native of Katy, Texas, will be entering his junior year for Tulane in the spring of 2010.
The USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate), which is managed by Tulane head coach Rick Jones, finished its summer with a 19-5 record.
