A Look at the Men's Squad
The Chile Pepper Invitational will sever as a great measuring stick for the Conference USA Tournament, as five other C-USA schools will be among the field. Last weekend, the men's squad placed fourth out of nine teams at the Watson Ford Invitational, scoring 88 points as a team.
Max Miller was the top finisher for the men at the meet hosted by Mississippi College, crossing the finish line in 27:26.29. Miller placed 11th overall and was just in front of Jordan Vance who was 14th in a time of 27:59.99. Vance rebounded after being sick at the LSU Invitational, while freshman Ryan Rigali was the third Green Wave runner to finish. It was the highest team finish for the rookie, who ended with a time of 28:26.26.
Brian Lozes returns from injury for the Olive and Blue this weekend. The junior, who was the team's top finisher in the season opener at Georgia Invitational, will run the 10K distance for the first time in his career.
A Look at the Women's Squad
The Olive and Blue will compete against five other Conference USA squads this weekend at the Chile Pepper Invitational, as Houston, Memphis, SMU, UAB and Southern Miss will all attend the competition in Fayetteville, Ark.
After training through the Watson Ford Invitational, Julia Whitrock and Rebecca Coady will return to compete at the Chile Pepper. The last time Whitrock took to the course, she won the individual crown at the LSU Invitational, while Coady placed eighth overall in Baton Rouge.
Even though Southern Miss had their top three runners cross the finish line first, Tulane put all five of their scoring runners in front of the fourth USM finisher to claim the team title. Katherine Crabtree was the top finisher for Tulane with a fifth place overall showing at the Watson Ford Invitational. Emmi Aguillard placed seventh and Peggy Keplinger was 9th, while Johanna Gretschel (11th) and Callie Turlington (12th) also had solid showings for the Green Wave.
The fifth weekly rankings were released by the United State Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association have the Green Wave holding steady in the 14th position in the South Central Region.
