NEW ORLEANS - As the leaves begin to change and a chill enters the air, it is time again for the Tulane baseball team to take to the field for the annual Fall World Series. The two teams will begin their five game series on Wednesday, November 3 and conclude the completion on Wednesday, November 10, with all games taking place inside the friendly confines of Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
With the rosters set, the two teams are ready to take to the field and decide whether the Green Team, led by senior Conrad Flynn, will square off with the senior laden Blue Team, guided by seniors Nick Boullosa, Nick Pepitone and Drew Zizinia. The pitching matchups are set for the entire five-game slate, which includes a pair of starts by Flynn and Kyle McKenzie for Green squad and Randy LeBlanc and Zizinia on the Blue side.
The rosters feature 15 players on the Blue squad and 14 players on the Green team, with the Green team having the services of two-way threat Andrew Garner. The offense would seem to be the strong point for the Blue, with the six of the top ten hitters from the fall intra-squad games being a part of that team, while pitching may be the strength for the Green squad.
Nick Boullosa (.419), Greg Miller (.350), Brennan Middleton (.313), Bowen Woodson (.320), Jeremy Schaffer (.286) and Matt Ryan (.296) are all in the Blue starting lineup, with Boullosa (13 hits) and Middleton (10 hits) leading the team in hits this fall. The Green team has the services of Conrad Flynn (0.64 ERA), Alex Facundus (1.38 ERA), Andrew Garner (2.25 ERA) and Kyle McKenzie (2.35 ERA) will all be available for the Green Team on the mound.
Boullosa led the team in hits (13), batting average (.419), total bases (18), doubles (5) and on base percentage (.559) in ten intra-squad games this fall. The senior also walked twice, was hit four times and stole three bases in ten starts in center field. Briggs Barrios and Miller both hit .350 this fall, while Schaffer paced the squad in slugging percentage (.607), with two doubles, two triples and one of the teams four home runs. Blake Crohan had a pair of round-trippers and Garner accounted for the only other longball this fall.
Pepitone was the only Tulane pitcher not to give up a run this fall, tossing nine innings and surrendering just six hits in a pair of appearances. Flynn was the top starter thus far in the fall, throwing 14 innings and allowing just three runs - one earned - with 12 strikeouts and just three walks. Zizinia made two starts, with three overall appearances, and allowed just one earned run in 11.1 innings of work on the mound.
