A Look at the Men's Squad
After a solid opening weekend, the Green Wave's men's team will return to the course and look to build off of the four personal-bests set at the Georgia Invitational. The team finished sixth overall, out of ten teams, and were just one point shy of fifth place.
Brian Lozes paced the team last weekend with a career-best 25:42 showing on the 8K course, while Max Miller, Jordan Vance and Ryan Rigali all set personal-records at the UGA Equestrian Park. The biggest improvement came from Vance, a junior, who bested his PR by over one minute. Miller topped his previous career best by nearly a minute with a time of 27:10.84, while Rigali, a freshman, crossed the finish line in 28:37.81 in his first collegiate cross country event.
At the meet, Lozes extended his streak of top finishes for the Green Wave to seven straight races. The junior has been the #1 finisher for Tulane in every meet dating back to the start of the 2009 season.
A Look at the Women's Squad
On the women's side, Tulane enters the weekend ranked 14th in the South Central region in the latest ranking released by the USTFCCA. The squad is led by a pair of veterans, in Rebecca Coady and Julia Whitrock, and a core of experience runners. Last weekend, the six Green Wave harriers who competed were all upperclassmen, but this weekend the newcomers will get a chance to tackle the course at the Crimson Classic.
Coady led the way in the season opener at the Georgia Invitational with a fourth place overall finish and a time of 18:13.05. The time was the third fastest 5K time for the senior and missed her career-best by 19 seconds. Whitrock finished sixth overall in a time of 18:15.26, just six seconds off of her PR.
Johanna Gretschel and Katherine Crabtree were the next two Green Wave finishers, placing 28th and 29th respectively, and Crabtree set a new career-best at 19:10.04. The new career-mark was nearly 25-seconds faster than her previous best, set last year at the Gulf Coast Stampede. Jessica Dallager also set a new PR at the Georgia Invitational with a 19:11.10 showing.
As a team, the Olive and Blue claimed third out of seven teams with 77 points at the Georgia Invitational, finishing behind Georgia (27) and Mississippi State (54).
