NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane volleyball team got off to a slow start and the potent offensive attack of UCF was took much to overcome in their three set loss. Tulane had their two-match winning streak snapped at The Venue on the UCF campus by scores of 12-15, 21-25, 17-25.
"We couldn't follow our game plan and UCF got off to a quick start," said Tulane head coach Sinisa Momic. "We just couldn't stop them in the first set and they showed why they are one of the top offensive teams in the conference. We were able to make some adjustments in the second game and Cori stepped up, but we couldn't find anyone else on offense.
Our serve receive wasn't very good tonight and, because of that, we couldn't get into system and finished with over 20 hitting errors. We must move on quickly from this match and we have to turn our attention to our next match versus UTEP."
A UCF (13-8, 5-5 C-USA) service error gave Tulane the first lead of the match, but the Knights scored 14 of the next 16 points to grab a 14-3 lead and Tulane couldn't recover from the slow start. A Cori Martone service ace pulled TU close at 24-21, but a service error ended the set and gave the home team a 2-0 advantage. Martone ended the second set with eight of the team's 14 kills and the Green Wave hit a match-high .229 in the frame.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair in the early going, before UCF took the lead for good at 9-8.
