
Baseball Locks Up Spot in C-USA Tournament

NEW ORLEANS - Last season, the Tulane baseball team entered the final weekend with hopes of getting to the conference tournament, but were unable to secure a spot, the 2011 edition of the Green Wave ended any waiting this season and locked up a spot in the 2011 Conference USA Championships that will be hosted at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. starting May 25 and running through May 29.
The Green Wave currently sit in a three-way tie for fifth place in C-USA entering the final weekend of conference play and will host East Carolina starting on Thursday, May 19. Tulane can finish as high as third place in the standings, while they can also fall as low as seventh, depending on what happens in their series with the Pirates and around the conference, as a whole. No team has locked up a seed to this point of the conference slate.
Tulane has locked up a 30-win season for the 18th straight year and have won two out of three games in each of their last three Conference USA series. Tulane will hold the tie breaker with Memphis, UAB and UCF, winning each of those series by a count of 2-1.
The final weekend of Conference USA play will feature three other conference series, with UAB owning the final off weekend of the 2011 season. UCF will host Marshall, Rice will travel to Southern Miss, Houston is at Memphis and East Carolina travels to New Orleans. Outside of conference, the Blazers will head west to play Utah in a three-game series.
