IRVING, Texas - Entering the weekend, the top seven seeds in the Conference USA Tournament were up for grabs. The Tulane baseball team was unable to capitalize in their series with East Carolina and will enter the Conference USA Tournament hosted at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. as the seventh seed.
Rice won a share of the C-USA title and will be the No.1 seed at the championships, which are presented by Trustmark. Southern Miss also earned a share of their first regular season Conference USA Championship since 2003 and will take the number two seed into Trustmark Park.
The 2011 Conference USA Championship presented by Trustmark will feature the top eight teams in regular-season league play. Those eight will be split into two four-team pools (or pods), with the winner of each pod playing in a single championship game. Teams are assigned pods based on seed, which are determined by the order of finish in regular-season conference play.
Each team is guaranteed to play three games. Teams in each pod will play all three other teams in its pod. The team with the best composite record in each pod advances to the championship game. Two-way ties in a pod will be broken by head-to-head play. In the case of a three-way tie, the highest seed will advance.
The Green Wave will open play on Wednesday, May 25 versus Southern Miss at 7:30, play East Carolina on Thursday, May 26 at 4:00 and close out pool play against Houston on May 27 at 4:00. Thursday's game will be broadcast live by CSS and locally on Cox Sports Television (CST).
