NEW ORLEANS - As the summer heats reaches a boil in the New Orleans area, the college summer baseball seasons are reaching their midpoints and All-Star rosters are beginning to take shape. The first representative from the Tulane baseball team on a midsummer classic squad is Brandon Boudreaux who was selected to the Cal Ripken League All-Star team on Thursday.
Boudreaux is one of three Baltimore Redbirds to be named to the All-Star roster and is leading the team with a .348 batting average and a .489 on-base percentage. The left-handed hitter also paces the squad in slugging percentage (.478) and runs scored (.19), while sitting among the team leaders in doubles (seven), hits (24) and walks (17). Also, Boudreaux has fanned a team-low three times in 25 games and holds a 5.7-to-1 walk-to-strikeout ratio.
The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League will face off with their counterparts from the Valley Baseball League on Monday, July 11 at Eagle Field in Veterans Memorial Stadium on the James Madison University campus in Harrisonburg, Va. This will mark the third installment of the series, with the CRCBL winning the inaugural game in 2009 before the 2010 game was rained out.
Last season, Boudreaux appeared in 46 games with 40 starts in the outfield and hit .232 with 23 runs scored, 12 RBI's and a .366 on-base percentage. He walked 26 times and struck out just 13, ranking among the Top-100 nationally in toughest to strikeout (10.9 at-bats per K). He ranked second on the squad with seven stolen bases in 12 attempts.
