Aloiloi, Newton Lead Cross Country At Pre-Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Green Wave men finished 22nd and the women came in 24th in the un-seeded Black Race as the Tulane University cross country teams closed out the 2015 regular season on Saturday in the Pre-Nationals at E.P. Tom Sawyer National Park.
The sophomore tandem of Emma Newton and Lauren Bartels posted the top two times by an American Athletic Conference female participant with respective times of 21:41.8 and 21:50.2 in the 6K run. Fellow second-year standout Moses Aloiloi, meanwhile, clocked the second-fastest performance by a league male member at 24:39.0 in the 8K event and senior Jack White had the third-best time by an American male with 25:10.6. Newton finished 40th overall in the women's race with Bartels finishing 53rd, and Aloiloi paced the Green Wave men with a 24th-place performance.
White, who finished 76th overall in the men's Black Race, was one of three Green Wave runners to post lifetime-best showings as junior Chris Lowery was 129th with a time of 25:43.6 and redshirt-sophomore Charlie Frishberg clocked a 26:47.4 to finish 190th. Not to be left out, freshman Pierce Hill logged a season-best 26:20.1 to cross the finish line at 172nd.
Freshman Emmanuel Rotich finished third among the Tulane men with a 25:17.8 to come in 88th overall while senior Nicholas Meloro posted a time of 26:34.5 to finish 179th.
Liberty won the men's Black Race with 159 points, followed by UC Davis with 172 points and Brown with 198. Tulane was one of two American programs competing in the event as Cincinnati came in 18th with 432 points.
On the women's side, Tulane's 605 points and 24th-place finish was the best among American participants as Houston was 31st with 768 points and Cincinnati came in 33rd with 864. Washington State won the women's run with 176 points, followed by Buffalo at 183 and Arizona at 203.
Senior Mikayla Sonneborn was third for the Green Wave women with a 23:01.6 to finish 166th overall and freshman Sarah Marvin was next with a 23:11.1 to come in 175th. Junior Katharine Smiley was 179th with a 23:17.2, sophomore Emily-Kathryn Hoey was 213th with a 23:58.9 and junior Celeste White was 225th with a 24:38.8.
The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when Tulane travels to Grimesland, North Carolina, for The American Championship before heading to College Station, Texas, for the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 13.
