Student-Athlete Spotlight: Stephen Alemais
Oct 29, 2015 | Baseball
People know the name Stephen Alemais now as a star on the baseball field, but others may even know him from his Instagram fame. However, Alemais' popularity was not always the case. Being from the Bronx, baseball is not the most popular sport, but being from a Dominican family, it is a way of life. At the age of five, Alemais' mom - a former softball player and huge New York Yankees fan -who played softball and is a huge Yankees fan - and dad - a superb athlete in his own right - introduced Stephen to the game that became the love of his life. Through hard work and perseverance, the Tulane Green Wave star has become a sensation on and off of the field.
In his two years at Tulane, Alemais has already received numerous accoloades, such as being named to the 2015 American Athletic Conference All-Second Team, being selected as a member of the 2015 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional All-Tournament Team and being tabbed as the 2014 Perfect Game Preseason Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
The success Alemais has had, in addition to the adoration from fans and followers from all over the world has not made Alemais cocky like it would for many young athletes in his position. If anything, it has humbled him, and he has used his position to inspire kids to reach their dreams and goals. Despite being projected to be a top pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, Alemais' success has come from more than himself and hard work. The young star understands that none of it would be possible without the encouragement of his loved ones, coaches and teammates. But on top of all of that, it has been even more exciting to be backed by his young, supportive fans. For that, Alemais is more than appreciative, and he is happy he can give back as well.
