NEW ORLEANS -- The Green Wave are set to begin the 2015-16 season, hosting Alabama A&M in the home opener. This will be the first game of the year for both teams. Tulane returns its leading scorer from last season in Louis Dabney (13.6), who is just three points shy of the 1,000 career point mark. The Bulldogs also return their leading scorer from a year ago in Ladarius Tabb (17.9). Tabb was picked as the preseason conference player of the year in the SWAC after earning 2015 Newcomer of the year last season.
THE OPPONENT
Alabama A&M opens its season against the Green Wave after a 9-19 outing in 2014-15. The Bulldogs return their leading scorer from a year ago in Ladarius Tabb. Tabb was named the 2015 SWAC Newcomer of the Year and was picked as the preseason conference player of the year for this season. He was joined on the preseason first team by teammate Nick West.
Tabb averaged 17.9 ppg as a sophomore after transferring from Junior College to Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs have eight JUCO transfers on their 2015-16 roster.
THE SERIES
This is just the second ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Green Wave. The two teams first met on Nov. 11, 2011, in New Orleans. The Green Wave knocked off Alabama A&M on their home court, 72-63.
NOTEWORTHY
-The Green Wave have added five freshmen to the roster as well as two transfers.
-The Tulane roster boasts seven New Orleans natives.
-Louis Dabney led Tulane in scoring last year (13.6), and earned All-American Conference Second Team honors.
-The Green Wave return just two starters and four letterwinners from last year's squad.
-Tulane's 29 televised games this season matches the most ever in a season in program history.
Tulane in Season Openers The Tulane men's basketball enters it 106th season of basketball Friday night, and sixth season under head coach Ed Conroy. The Green Wave are 74-31 in season openers, and have won five of the last eight. Last year, Tulane hosted Wake Forest to start the season and fell 71-49. Conroy is 3-2 in his time with the Green Wave in season openers.
LOOKING BACK
Last season the Green Wave finished 15-16, seventh in league play with a 6-12 record in the American Athletic Conference. The team returned just four letterwinners and two starters (Dabney, Smith). Despite the records, the Green Wave finished the year above 500 on the road and of the dropped games, five were by a margin of six points or less.
WHAT WE'VE GAINED
The Green Wave have added seven newcomers to the 2015-16 roster. LSU transfer Malik Morgan is now available after sitting out last season due to NCAA tranfers rules. He scored 24 points in the exhibition game against Loyola a week ago. Graduate student and fellow tranfer Jernard Jarreau has also joined the squad after graduating from Washington in the spring. Jarreau will add great size and experience for the Green Wave.
Tulane welcomed five freshmen this fall with the addition of Blake Paul, Kain Harris, Taron Oliver, Von Julien and Melvin Frazier. The versatile class is much larger and more athletic than what Tulane has seen in the past.
